I've done corporate video for different companies, but working with the MasterCard Foundation was particularly fulfilling. As a nonprofit, they provide scholarships to students in Africa for them to study at top universities in North America and Europe. I was hired on as a Multimedia Developer, so I was doing illustrations and document design in addition to video editing.
This first video is from a set of online lessons about career development. I received the footage from the in-house videographer, but after that it was up to me to find a style, design graphics, and edit the video.
When I worked there, the Foundation was busy building out a private social network for its scholarship students. The Foundation asked me to produce video tutorials to help show students how to use this network. To illustrate its features, I created motion graphic videos that mimicked the appearance of the website. This video was more like an ad than a tutorial, as it was intended to promote the social network in general by showcasing its major functionalities.
Along with video editing and graphics, I asked for some production assignments to get some practice in. For this video I did everything myself, from setting up lights and sound to running camera and conducting the interview, and then doing the edit afterwards. I did the music, too! I think they were surprised by that one, my boss was convinced it was stock music until I told her about using GarageBand to come up with a melody.
